Amish Friendship Bread

Amish Friendship bread

A couple years ago a friend of mine gave me the "starter" for some Amish friendship bread, with a page of instructions. Amish Friend Bread is a sweet and delicious breakfast cake type bread thats kind of like banana bread.
The starter is a cup of batter in a gallon sized ziploc bag that has secret ingredients that they say only the Amish know. (but the internet knows everything and here's a link to the recipe for the starter, the instructions on how to make it, and the rest of the recipe). You wait 5 days and add some ingredients then wait 5 more to add the rest of the ingredients then you can make the bread. The 10 day recipe really is fun to do because you get to share it with your friends.

But, sometimes you just want Amish Friendship Bread like right now, and you just don't know when the starter is going to get back around to you, and then once it does get back to you you'll have to wait the 10 days before you can make it. So, I did some research and found an instant recipe that literally tastes exactly the same as the 10 day one. from Merchant Mix

This recipe makes two loaves (I usually half this recipe to just make one):
1 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 large eggs
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 sm. box vanilla instant pudding
1 1/2 tsp baking powder

Preheat oven to 325.

Combine oil, sugar, vanilla, eggs, salt and cinnamon in large bowl. Add flour, milk, baking soda, pudding and baking powder. Mix well.

Grease 2 large loaf pans and sprinkle with a cinnamon sugar mixture, covering sides and bottom. Pour in bread mixture and sprinkle to taste more cinnamon and sugar on top. (the more the better!)

Bake 55 minutes - 1 hour.

  3. Thank you for the recipe. Many years ago, I received some and gave it away and used it. I never thought of looking for it on the net.
